Between Order and Chaos

Every human has a threshold ranging from Chaos to Order. The sweet spot is in the place of both. Creativity. What’s your tendency?

“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.” — Thomas Merton

Order: From Moderate to Extreme: How do you measure up?

Those who lean toward order, could you please raise your hand? There is a satisfied peace with order, form and plan. Thomas Merton said, “Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.” It’s not a metaphor lost that Merton was a Trappist monk whose life had great order surrounding it. There is a range of comfort surrounding order. Order of schedule, environment, and details can be fulfilling parts of the day when organized and structured. When order compliments but does not rule, order is in balance. Order out of balance can have tendencies toward irritability with change, wishing to control outcomes, a discomfort in chaotic environments, or an inability to cope with disorganization. This stifles creativity because wants outweigh possibility. No problem dear lovers of order! It is the purpose of understanding where you fall on the line of order to chaos.

  • What can my order learn from chaos?

  • As much as I want to be right, is there another point of view that would increase creativity?

  • What do I need to balance my order to increase a little chaos for creativity?

“Chaos in the world brings uneasiness, but it also allows the opportunity for creativity and growth.” — Tom Barrett

Chaos: From Moderate to Extreme: How do you measure up?

Those who are more comfortable with chaos, thank you for waiting. Your turn is now. There is excitement with movement, swirling papers, and ideas. Milwaukee mayor, Tom Barrett said, “Chaos in the world brings uneasiness, but it also allows the opportunity for creativity and growth.” Growing any city takes working in chaos. In balance, chaos can birth beginnings, generate excitement around new ideas, gather the whole and break it up into a new opportunity. Out of balance, chaos can have too much emotion, uncertainty or lack of vision. Forgetfulness is a common symptom of abundant chaos. Also, drama can show up as a key player with chaos. Just as order does not inherently enjoy chaos, chaos can be uncomfortable with too much order. The need to break free can disrupt communication. In the presence of bounteous order, chaos can cause great irritation and even silliness.

  • Where you fall on the line of order to chaos?

  • What do you need to balance your chaos toward a little order for greater creativity and completion?

  • What system needs an overhaul toward order?

  • What support can you ask for to achieve that goal?

“Chaos in the midst of chaos isn't funny, but chaos in the midst of order is.” — Steve Martin

A love letter to Beloved Order from your Dear Chaos,

You are really great at lists. I love how you find what fits together from timing to sorting things. You know your treasure trove inside and out. The World would love to see some of it too! What fear might be holding back a larger picture? You have so much to offer. If creativity is what shows up with more chaos, what would you seek to grow? There is a lot to learn and process when living toward a balance of growth and discovery. That can be messy. Would you like to relax a little? How kindly do you speak to yourself? Because of planning and keeping details moving BIG DREAMS are accomplished. What can get a little messier and bring connection, vulnerability and creation into becoming? Loving lavishly is messy and delicious.

Come dine with me always,

Chaos

A love letter to Dear Chaos from your Beloved Order,

Wow, look at all of that! All out for the world to see! Colors, words, emotions and projects are abundant with great possibility! I’ve noticed that You have a hard time keeping tabs on this great stuff! Have you thought about giving me a call? I’m great at bringing this to Plan, Execution, and Sense. But you, Chaos, are an amazing finder of gems. In balance, I’ve noticed you can say “yes!” to opportunities and try new experiences with ease. I really admire that. There are a lot of ideas and paints used from your palate. It’s okay to ask for help and try again. I love watching you work in balance. Creativity needs us both in mix. What balance is needed today? Within you is the seed of what’s new. But within me, Order, is the process for it to grow and flourish.

I need you always,

Order
